My Trip to America

So as you guys know, I’ve been going on a lot of adventures recently. I was a leader at camp, a camper and I went to Aberdeen for 10 days. As I am writing this post I am on the plane on my way to Washington D.C in the United States of America. Yep, I am travelling on my own to a completely different continent for 3 months. Am I terrified? Yes, yes I am! Am I excited? Absolutely! This trip is my biggest adventure yet and it will also be what my blog and YouTube channel will consist of for a good while. I thought I’d kinda explain what exactly I am going to the USA for and what I am excited about.

I am going to the US to experience what ministry is like. Not only in a (much) larger church with so many different ages but in a different country. I am going to be visiting a church that my church at home has a special partnership with. They have sent people to our church to help us with youth work and the worship band a few times. I have built up good friendships with many of the people at the church and I will be staying with a lovely family during my time over there. I will be mainly focusing on learning about ministry with children and young people and worship (music).

The first thing in my calendar that I am excited for is Modgnik! This is scheduled the day after I arrive. Modgnik (Kingdom spelt backwards) is a weekend retreat for middle schoolers (There’s also a high school one in spring). I received the notes for discussions and devotional time yesterday which gave me a little bit of an idea of what happens at Modgnik but I still don’t actually know what it’s all about! I’ll have to wait and see I guess!

I am very excited to make friends in the USA and develop old friendships. Spending time with people who share the same Christian faith is very important. Hanging out with people that share the same faith as you is definitely something you should do. If you imagine a coal fire, it’s burning away nice and cosy. You remove a piece of coal. When this piece of coal is removed it stops burning and goes out. The same can be said for Christians. If you keep mixing with other Christians you will be on fire for Christ as well as encourage one another. When you stop spending time with Christians, that fire and passion you once had to serve him will eventually go out. It’s super easy and fun to spend time with other Christians too! You can do this by going to church, camp, church events, and you can even just invite someone out for coffee! I cant wait to see friends that I haven’t seen in such a long time and finding out what they’ve been up to. I’m also very excited to meet new friends and spend time with them too!

I am really looking forward to gaining some skills and experience working with young people that I can hopefully apply to my future studies/career. I have been working with children and young people for the past year and I have been loving it. I have also been volunteering in Sunday School for the past few months. I am really looking forward to learn new ways of teaching Sunday School, reaching out to the young people in the community and developing the youth ministry at home.

In November I will be flying from Virginia to Florida to visit my Auntie. I haven’t seen my Auntie for a while and I’m looking forward to seeing her. I am also very excited to see what Florida is like since I know it will be different to Virginia. I am not sure what is planned for my trip to Florida but I know I will enjoy it!

In November I will also be experiencing Thanksgiving. I live in the UK so I have never celebrated thanksgiving before. All I know about the holiday is that there’s A LOT of food involved which, of course, is great! I am looking forward to experiencing it and learning about the history behind it.

The final thing that I am excited for is strengthening a very special relationship. The relationship is the most important one anyone can have and I am so blessed to be able to be his Daughter! I’m looking forward to strengthening my relationship with God! I will be spending plenty of time studying his word and learning more and more about him! This trip will bring me so much closer with him.

So that’s all about my trip to America. I will be uploading to my blog and YouTube channel at least once a week! For more regular updates check out my Instagram (@evemaryblog) I would really appreciate your prayers for my travels and time in the USA!

God Bless, Eve xx
